European Universities Athletics Championships
Dear University Sports Community,
It is with enormous pride and a sense of responsibility that FADU Portugal welcomes the 2027 European University Athletics Championships, to be held in the city of Lisbon. This will be an absolutely historic edition, as it is the first edition of the European University Athletics Championships, a milestone that greatly honors us and reinforces the commitment of European university sports to growth, innovation, and competitive excellence.
We take on this challenge with great ambition and a total commitment to delivering an excellent edition that will have a positive impact on student-athletes, institutions, and everyone who is part of this ecosystem. We want Lisbon 2027 to represent the real kick-off for a major European event, capable of affirming university athletics and contributing to the development of a sport that is undoubtedly one of the most medal-winning and emblematic of the Olympic movement.
It is with great pleasure that Portugal, and in particular the city of Lisbon, is preparing to welcome the European university community in an atmosphere of sharing, competition, friendship, and celebration of sport. We are certain that this championship will be a source of pride for all of us and a significant boost for university athletics.

It is a privilege to welcome all Organising Committee members, athletes, partner universities, and member and associated institutions from across Europe.
We come together on a special occasion: the inaugural European Universities Athletics Championships in 2027. This first edition marks an important step in the continued development of European university sport and reflects the shared ambition that drives our community forward. I would like to express my sincere appreciation for your dedication, effort, and cooperation in bringing this new Championship to life. Your contribution is essential to everything we achieve together.
The European Universities movement continues to grow through your commitment. Whether through organising Championships, supporting student-athletes, or engaging in educational and social responsibility initiatives, your work plays a key role in strengthening university sport across Europe.
Our collective successes, ranging from the record-breaking European Universities Games to the expansion of our Associated Members network, stand as a testament to the strength of our community. This progress would not be possible without your ongoing partnership and the spirit of cooperation that unites us. The launch of the first Athletics Championships is another important milestone in that journey.
Looking ahead, I am confident that the 2027 European Universities Athletics Championships will establish a strong foundation for the future. It will provide high-quality competition, create opportunities for connection between students and institutions, and further promote the values of university sport.
I encourage everyone to take pride in this inaugural edition and contribute to making it a success. This is more than a sporting event; it is the beginning of a new tradition within European university sport, built on inclusion, excellence, and cooperation.
As always, our achievements are the result of shared commitment. I extend my sincere thanks to our Member Federations, Organising Committee, volunteers, partners, and EUSA staff for their outstanding work. I also acknowledge the continued support of FISU and the European Commission, which remains vital to our development.
